Armenian Sesame Seed Easter Cookies

Gourmet Easter Cookies From Home - An Armenian tradition, to make these delicious Easter cookies.  Serve them year round, also a great Easter basket gifts. Easter recipes like this has been past down through generations and is part of Easter cooking / food. 




1) In a mixing bowl add the butter and sugar mix until sugar has melted.

2) Add the eggs, vanilla, and milk. Mix together with the sugar mixture.

3) To the dry ingredients add the baking powder and mahleb to the flour and sift through.

4) 1 cup at a time add the flour to the wet ingredients, mixing well. Add flour until you have a soft dough. The dough should stick to your fingers very little.

5) Take a small amount of dough (walnut size) and roll out and form into cookies by braiding or in circles.

6) Place each cookie on a greased non stick cookie sheet, 1 inch apart. 

7) Set aside for 20 minutes.

8) Brush each cookie with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

9) Preheat oven 350 degrees F and bake the cookies in the oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

10) Cool on wire rack.

11) Can be frozen in an air tight container

  1. 1 cup Sugar
  2. 1 cup unsalted (2 sticks butter) melted
  3. 4 eggs
  4. 4 teaspoon Baking Powder
  5. 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  6. 1/2 cup warm milk
  7. 1 teaspoon Anise extract
  8. 1 teaspoon Mahleb
  9. 4 – 5 cups of all purpose flour
  10. 1 egg (egg wash to brush)
  11. Sesame seeds to sprinkle
