As a mezze hummus has been accepted the world over. The variations of this dish has mushroomed and there are now hundreds of hummus recipes.
Origins of hummus dates back to the Arab Levant Cuisine its center being Syria as is called Bilad El Sham. Countries where this recipe is popular in are Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and all surrounding countries. It goes to say the best thing about this recipe is that everyone agrees it is amazing.
In Middle East any Restaurant you visit will have it any family gathering will include Hummus as an Appetizer.
Directions: Take the canned Garbanzo Beans also known as Chickpeas and drain the liquid, place in a blender or food processor. Add the cumin, cayenne pepper(optional) lemon juice, garlic, tahini and olive oil and mix until smooth consistency. If you want a more loose consistency you can add a little bit of water and or olive oil. Serve in a plate or bowl and can be garnished with cumin pepper and cayenne pepper, whole garbanzo beans, parsley, olives, or nuts.

Is Hummus Healthy for you? Yes it is all the ingredients in this recipe are good. You can avoid using canned chickpeas to make it a more healthy appetizer. I agree that it is easier to make it with canned chickpeas vs fresh chickpeas. But if you can make it with fresh chickpeas it will be better. I believe we are losing fifty percent or more of the nutritional value when we use canned chickpeas.
Is this hummus the original? This is the hummus recipe I've been eating since childhood except we didn't use canned chickpeas back then. Many people have their preferences. This specific recipe has been in the family for ages.
