Lamb Shank Recipe

Easy Lamb Shank recipe that you will love. Either using a pressure cooker or a deep skillet with lots of garlic, bay leaf, salt and pepper. Mariette makes this recipe look easy to make, and it is, so add it to your menu and give it a try. Serve it with rice and bread!


1) Using a pressure cooker or stainless steel skillet

2) Brown each piece of lamb shank in batches. Remove on to a plate.

3) Add the garlic to the skillet on low heat, and toss around a little.

4) Place the lamb shank back into the skillet add a bay leaf.

5) Sprinkle with black pepper and salt to taste.

6) If using a skillet add a little water, about 1/3 cup or as necessary. If using pressure cooker then no water is necessary, the meat will release its own liquid.

7) Cover and cook in pressure cook for 10 minutes.Skillet cooking, cover and cook for 20 minutes or until the meat is cooked and tender. (check often to see if there is enough liquid in the pan, so that it does not burn)

8) After the meat is cooked, remove the bay leaf, and serve. If you prefer to not have much of a sauce, then take the cover off, and cook further until the liquid is mostly evaporated.

9) Serve with rice, bread. Enjoy!

  1. 3 pounds Lamb Shank - Each piece cut in half (Ask your butcher)
  2. 1 Head of Garlic 15 to 18 pieces - Sliced
  3. 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Ghee or 2 to 3 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil
  4. 1 Bay Leaf
  5. Black Pepper - To Taste
  6. Sea Salt - To Taste

I need to buy a new casserole to cook this delicious lamb shank casserole. Although mine is only a year old I already need a new casserole that is priced right and is quality. If you can recommend one to me or a brand that would be great. I love this recipe.
