LEBANESE DESSERT - BREAD PUDDING with Pistachios - AYSH EL SARAYA

LEBANESE DESSERT - BREAD PUDDING with Pistachios - AYSH EL SARAYA

This is by far one of the easiest recipes to make, and you and your guests will eat the last bite. It is so delicious, and one of my favorite recipes!  I can eat this all day, but then I will become 5000lbs.  But Occationally made to treat yourself is ok.  It is super wonderful and I am sure you will enjoy it as much!  I am sure it is made in many other countries other than just Lebanon, but I have always known it as a Lebanese Dessert.  If you have made this recipe in the past, and if there are any changes please do leave your feedback.  I am always looking to perfect this Bread Pudding recipe, although I believe it is perfect as it is.   Enjoy

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Remove all the hard edges off the sliced white bread.  Toasted bread or even a few days old bread slices work well.

2) Using a pyrex dish, place one layer base of the bread.

3) Prepare the syrup, by using a saucepot filled with water, sugar and bring to a boil.  Stir occasionally and squeeze in the lemon juice, blossom and rose water.

4) Pour half the syrup on the base layer of bread. The bread will soap up the syrup.  Reserve the rest of the syrup for serving.

5) The third part of this recipe is the cream layer.  In a sauce pot add the corn flour with milk, keep mixing until the corn flour completely dissolves, then add the sugar, rose and blossom water.  Keep stirring at a low temperature until the mixture thickens.    Place off the fite one it has thickened, and mix in the whipping cream and do not stop mixing until it is well combined.  Pour the mixture on the bread and syrup layer.

6) Place the pyrex dish in the fridge for 1 hour.

7) Sprinkle finely ground pistachios on top.  Pistacious are really important for this recipe.  I wouldn't substitute it with any other nuts.

8) For a sweeter dessert, pour a little of the reserved now cool syrup.
