Pickled Garlic Recipe

How To Pickle Garlic - Pickled Garlic Recipe.  With red pepper, mustard seeds and other pickling spices. Do not worry if you never even cook, cooking up these garlic pickles is not difficult and you can make plenty and it wont cost an arm and a leg buying it from the market.  Using a stainless steel saucepan you will be on your way to make these fabulous little pickles.


1) Clean all the garlic from the peel.

2) If there are any large cloves then simply cut them in half. 

3) Add the red bell pepper.

4) On medium high heat, place a saucepan.  Once the pan is hot add the sugar and vinegar. 

5) In a ziploc bag add the celery seeds and dry mustard and smash them until ground. 

6) Pour the spice mixture into the sugar and vinegar liquid and bring to a boil for approximately 5 minutes.

7) Now the liquid is ready for the garlic and peppers.  After adding the garlic and peppers bring back to a boil for another 5 minutes.

8) After the 5 minutes is up, remove the garlic and peppers in a sterile container with a lid, leaving 1 inch free from the top of the container. 

9) Pour the liquid mixture onto the garlic and fill enough to cover the garlic completely.

10 Seal the container cover and store for approximately 2 to 3 weeks before serving.

*NOTE - The spices can also be placed in a cheese cloth and wrapped with kitchen twine.  Just remove the spice bag before adding the garlic to the container and disgard it.


  1. 1/2 pound garlic, peeled
  2. 1 large red bell pepper, chopped
  3. 2 cups distilled white vinegar
  4. 2/3 cup white sugar or less
  5. 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  6. 1/2 teaspoon ground dry mustard or whole mustard seeds
  7. jalapeno or chili of choice(optional)
