Rice Pilaf With Spiced Lamb & Chickpeas Recipe - Rice Pilaf With Spiced Lamb & Chickpeas Recipe - Ground lamb cooked in a fry pan, then combined with the rice and chickpeas or also known as garbanzo beans.  This is a simple recipe on how to make rice with lamb. As it is a rice side dish, can accompany many other recipes. Beef can be used instead of the lamb as well.


1) On medium high heat, melt the butter in a large sauce pot. 

2) Add the onions and cook until soft and translucent.

3) Add the lamb and brown all over.

4) Add the garlic, allspice, cardamom, cinnamon.  Mix together.

5) Cook for 5 minutes or so until all the liquid is evaporated.

6) Add the chickpeas, rice, season with salt and black pepper to taste.

7) Mix together well, pour the broth and water and bring to a boil.

8) Place heat on low and the rice and lamb for 20 minutes or until the rice is tender.

9) Turn heat off after the rice is cooked, and allow to settle for several minutes.

10) In a frying pan or skillet, add the nuts, either pine nuts, sliced almonds or just about any nut you prefer.

11) Place the rice and lamb onto your serving dish, and sprinkle the nuts all over.

12) And serve, Enjoy!

  1. 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
  2. 1 onion, finely chopped
  3. 1 pound ground lamb
  4. 2 garlic cloves, minced
  5. 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  6. 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  7. 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  8. 1 1/2 cups jasmine rice
  9. One 15-ounce can chickpeas, drained
  10. sea salt to taste
  11. ground black pepper to taste
  12. 1 cup chicken broth or stock
  13. 1 cup water
  14. 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  15. 1/2 cup pine nuts or nuts of choice
