Shawarma Spice Recipe
Use this Shawarma spice recipe on chicken, beef, chicken and lamb. Shawarma is most well known in Middle East and is also called döner kebab. There are many varieties of how to prepare the Shawarma with additions like fresh garlic, yogurt, vinegar or lemon juice. This spice blend is great to have in your spice cabinet for quick recipes. For best results allow the meat to marinade. Shawarma or also spelled shwarma, or in Iraq is called guss, is typically thin slices of meat on a large skewer that is rotating. The meat then is roasted with gas or electric heat. Once the meat is cooked, the meat is sliced off and served with pita and condiments.
1) In a mixing bowl, add the cumin, coriander, garlic, paprika, turmeric, cloves, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and cinnamon.
2) Mix together well, and use as needed or place in an air tight container or bottle.
Shawarma is popular throughout the eastern Mediterranean and is sometimes called the Middle Eastern taco. It originated in northwestern Turkey as döner kebab. But it reached its current form and popularity with the Turkish population in Germany. The sandwich is now found in a variety of forms around the world.
- 1 tbsp ground cumin
