Spaghetti and Meatballs Recipe - How To Make Spaghetti Meatballs

This spaghetti and meatballs recipe is fairly quick to make, and very delicious.  The following directions explain how to make spaghetti meatballs.

Spaghetti with Meatballs is an Italian-American classic recipe, enjoyed by adult and children alike everywhere. Spagethi with Meatballs is a comfort food which quickly gathered us children everytime my mother cooked it for us. And up to date we still use the same recipe and we are not surprised that our children love this delicious food as much as we did.

Directions:

Spaghetti Sauce

1- Heat extra virgin olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.

2- Saute the onion in the heated olive oil for 5 minutes or until it is soft and translucent.

3- Add garlic to the onion and cook for 2 minutes.

4- Add tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, sugar and season with salt  and pepper.

5- Simmer uncouvered for 30 minutes or until the desired consistency is reached. Mixing frequently.

 

How to prepare the Meatballs:

While sauce is seamering prepare the Meatballs

1- In a large bawl combine all the meatball ingredients and mix well.

2- shape the mixture into 25  1-inch meatballs.

3- Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over high heat until hot.

4- Add meatballs to the hot skillet, reduce the heat to medium and cook stirring ocasionally, until browned on all sides. about 10 to 12 minutes.

5- Add the browned meatballs to the simmering spaghetti sauce and cook uncovered about 10 minutes or until the meatballs are no longer pink in the center.

6- Serve over hot cooked spaghetti sprinkle with some Parmesan cheese and serve.

Helpful tips:

Use about four quarts of water for every pound of pasta. Add salt to the water after it comes to a boil, because salted water takes longer time to boil.

  1. Ingredients for spaghetti sauce
  2. 2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  3. 1 small onion, finely chopped
  4. 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  5. 1 can tomato paste (6 ounces)
  6. 2 cans (28 ounces) of Italian style plum tomatoes, not drained and chopped
  7. 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
  8. 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  9. 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper (optional)
  10. salt to season
  11. 12 oz. spaghetti of your choice, cooked and drained.
  12. 1/4 cup grated Parmesan or Romano cheese.
  13. Ingredients for Meatball
  14. 1 1/2 pounds of lean ground turkey or beef
  15. 1/4 cup seasoned dry bread crumbs
  16. 1 large egg
  17. 3/4 teaspoon dried basil
  18. 3/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  19. 1 tablespoon olive oil
  20. Black pepper to season
